“really funky place; the song "Hotel California" comes to mind as soon as you enter the main lobby. Most of the actual rooms are in other buildings a short walk away. I booked a single room what is -compared with a hotel room- not as cost efficient than a multi-person room. The main lobby is clearly the big attraction of Birmingham Backpackers: big movie screen, lots of cool international travellers, working wireless internet, and the bar is serving breakfast and dinner, so you basically just pay for lunch and booze. Note that in the rooms their is a strict "no fun" policy: no smoking, no drinking, no other persons, no "noise-making activitys". The area where the hostel is located is a industry zone and not very pretty; it's harmless however and have some very cool artist shops nearby (visit the mustard factory). toilets and bathroom in my house were very clean. main lobby is only open from 8:00 am until midnight.
