“We ended up staying at Titus Hotel as the staff at Kooyk Hotel told us that their hotel was fully booked when we arrived. It'll be nice if they tell us that they'll put us in a different hotel in the first place (we booked over 3 months in advance!). The room that Titus hotel provided was meant to be a single room (we saw the floor plan from the fire exit instruction) , but they put 2 beds in to make it a double room.

“Great value for money is the best way to describe the Kooyk Hotel, as it is situated perfectly. The room is basic but there is a sink and there was a TV in our room with some English channels. The worst thing was that we had to share a shower which was down the stairs from our room - but we knew to expect that as it was mentioned to us beforehand. The staff are really helpful and the room was clean even tho the building seems quite old. If your're not too fussy this hotel is a good choice!

“my second visit to the dam and i feel the kooyk is idealy located for museums, shops, clubs and erm coffee. because of its position only a few hundred yards from the two biggest clubs in the Dam you would expect lots of noise. however the kooyk is just tucked away enough to give you a good nights rest, if thats what your after ;)

“Room was a good size, TV did not work, and the shared bathroom was very small. But hotel in a very good location. Very good if you are on a budget and are only looking to sleep somwhere. Would not recommend if you are thinking of hanging around your room for long periods.

“The hotel was what we expected for a budget hotel, although the shower facilities do leave a lot to be desired. On the whole the staff were friendly and polite however one of the young dutch ladies who worked there could do with learning some people skills or manners. The location is excellent for jumping on and off trams to visit everywhere with plenty of coffee shops and bars within walking distance to choose from. Overall you get what you pay for. Great holiday though! Will be revisiting Amsterdam again soon.

“Hotel was extremely dirty, with NO toilet or working tv in the room. There was only 1 toilet per floor, shared between 10 people!! I will never stay at this hotel again, staff were rude, unhelpful and generally could not be bothered. Worse hotel I have ever stayed in.

“the stuff were kind and friendly. we were dissapointed that there was only shower room in the whole building. in our room, there were lots of mosquitos and flees(my husband was bitten badly). the bed cover should be renewed!!!

“The manager of the hotel was very rude and not very helpful! We left the hotel with him practally shouting at us because we were a little later out of the room! I would never stay there again and do not recommend it.

“Both myself and my friends thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Amsterdam and found the Kooyk Hotel to be welcoming and comfortable. We were a little aprehensive intially as we realised that the Kooyk Hotel was fairly cheap but we were pleasantly surprised. The breakfast choice was very good and the staff friendly. We would definitely stay there again as the location was excellently situated being very close to the local bars and restaurants etc.

“Check in was very unfriendly, very big change from all the other hotels we stayed at after booking through Trav. But the male staff member who dealt with our checkout and breakfast. Security was very poor - our windows did not lock, and were opened by housekeeping staff during cleaning. disappointing accommodation at end of big trip.

“Apologies from the management as no hot water for my shower one morning. Vending machine not working and no hot refreshments available from management. Twice found patio doors to room open on returning at end of day. Could not hear the TV and unable to increase sound.

“I really enjoyed my stay at the Kooyk Hotel. Everything was very clean and secure as well as being very close to all the bars, restaurants and sights. The unlimited breakfast was wonderful, very tasty and set us up for the day. The hotel is equipped with a safety deposit box which is free to use and came in handy for passports and cash etc. however nothing we left in our room was touched. The communal showers and toilets were very clean and we had no qualms about using them (I've been to pricier hotels where I've worn socks in the shower to avoid touching anything! No issues here!) The owners were very helpful and gave us some useful advice and directions to some sights we wouldn't have found otherwise. I would go back in a flash! Definately reccommended! A* :)
