Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating Cook Islands 7th July 2008 Male 41+ 2/5 Comments: The bathroom was very smelly from poor drainage and with signs of stagnant water for the 4 days that we were there. Nothing was done about it. Room was for 2 beds but had 4 beds shoved in it. This was clearly seen from the fixtures and fittings in the room and the room was very congested with hardly any room to walk about. The ceiling was broken and from time to time we noticed that dust and other debris had fallen on the pillows beneath the opening. The smoke detector was hanging loose.

But not only this, we had to walk 3 blocks with the luggage to another dirty place. And I could write more about the shower and breakfast, but I hurts just to recall it... NEVER AGAIN

First of all, we got to the reception desk 1 hour after we were scheduled to get there, and they brought us to our room. Our room that they were going to put us in looked as follows: beds not made up, room was on the ground level facing the street, bay window hanging off its hinges and resting on a chair, and in general just dirty and discusting. (This actually wasnt York Hotel, but some other owned by the same group. Though we had reserved at York, they told us that there wasn't room there for us after all.) So of course we refused to leave our bags there and go out, like the girl suggested we did, so we asked for another room. The other one had a nasty smell, and was quite dirty, but since it was up on the 3rd or 4th floor, we felt safer there and we decided we didn't really have any other choice, so we stayed there. NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS PLACE!!!

The showers didnt work... and I could not find anyone in the reception at the check out time, which made me get late to a meeting... As nobody arrived, I put the key in the mailbox! I hope the owner has found it. Actually, the advertisiment was not really honest!

And then we get a little room 3x3 m in Cranbrook Hostel with shower maybe 70x70cm..I think this is not serious care for customers...And another thing...to get there from Gants Hill underground station can be dangerous..this part of town is not very safe...I was not very content

When we booked online we were under the impression that we would be staying at the York hotel. Instead, we were directed to the Cranbrook hotel where we registered and were sent to a random house in a very dodgy neighbourhood. There was no security and the room was very dirty and bug infested. Also, the bathrooms were unshowerable. In order to feel safer we had to push the wardrobe in front of the door when we slept. At no point during our stay were we even told why we weren't staying at the York hotel. I hope that anyone reading this review will seriously think twice about booking accomadation here.
