It's very cute but it was cold both nights. Note to self - bring your own blanket as they only provide you top & bottom sheets and a pillow case. A lot of people our age there for the same reason - to party and have a decent place to crash. Free Wi-Fi & Computer access is a plus although I didn't need to use it. There is some confusion as to which bunk is yours - we slept in the next available bunk both nights as people seem to bed hop? Whatever - it was fun and I would stay there again.

Sous Bois is still an excellent place though, it's in a great location, is very charming and if your looking for a comfortable place to stay then you can't go wrong here. Probably not ideal if you're looking to meet lots of people and / or party as there's only a small communal area and lots of signs telling you to leave the party at the bar.

A few things though, the water was freezing in the showers and we didnt recieve linens for our matresses which was a minor inconvienice. Aside from all of that however it was a good hostel.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating - 2nd January 2009 Female 18-24 3/5 Comments: My friends and I stayed at this hostel for 5 nights and met many wonderful people. The staff was great with the exception of one staff member who was rather rude and (to be blunt) creepy. We stayed around New Year's eve, and knew of more than one person who had their things stolen while staying in the hostel such as: their money (up to $300), iPod or camera. I had brought my computer, guitar, phone, money and not had anything stolen (luckily) but I suppose the moral of the story is people should be extra cautious of where their things are on a big party night like New Year's Eve. (shrugs) The location of the hostel was AWESOME, right near lots of bars and clubs, a few blocks from St. Catherine's busy shopping street. The showers were cold (except for 1 of the 5), the bathrooms had lots of water on the floor, (so you had to chose your stall carefully), the beds were loud and often flat (they are air mattresses), and it was FREEZING COLD 3 of the 5 nights we slept there...can you turn up the heat, please? Despite the many negative aspects to this hostel, being with a good group of friends, having a good party on New Year's Eve (which the hostel threw for the people who stayed there, and included giving out free alcohol and playing games and music), and meeting an awesome variety of people from America, Canada and around the world outweighed some of the negatives. I would definitely choose going to this hostel again, but probably in the Summer! :-)

It is quite clean, has a good atmosphere. The air mattresses were noisy but slept quite well. Only main complaint was that a lot of waterpipes were dripping in the bathroom area.

But if you are planning to stay longer than a couple of days, IN THE WINTER, choose something else, because it was very cold in the hostel, and the air mattresses keep you awake. But its a wonderful place to meet new people, and montreal rocks.

Though they were very comfortable, we wish we would have been prepared for this. The private rooms are little cabins which were just delightful. We went in the middle of winter, when it was freezing, and our cabin had only a little space heater. We didn't mind, but if you are sensitive about the cold, make sure you stay in the main part of the hostel or ask for a room with a big heater!

States there is a male dorm & a female dorm, but ALL beds & common area are in ONE room. Their website says breakfast is included in price, but they do not have breakfast & says there is a free phone to call anywere in NA, but phone is broken. When we mentioned this to staff they didn't seem to care much, acted like they didn't know about it, but we found out that several people had already complained. Need to stop lying so people don't feel disappointed.

If you don't expect the standing of an hotel then you should be all right. It's a little cold during the night but you can take as many blankets as you want. So it's not really a problem. The washrooms are clean. And it's a really good place to meet people and spend good time.

Staff was always cheerful, and helped us out when we asked to leave our baggage for an extra day. The caravan had a heater in it, and the bed wasn\\\'t as bad as everyone else\\\'s reviews made out. Yes it creaks, but it was really NO BIG DEAL. The showers and bathrooms fit le sous-bois\\\'s image, as they are not fancy, but exude character. I mean, mosaic tiles on the floor of the shower? TOO COOL.
