Reviews for Art Hostel-Usually We Spend Our Time In The Garden, Sofia, Bulgaria |
|
|
Address: 21/A Angel Kanchev Street |
The Guardian:
The Art Hostel is as much a cultural hub as it is a bed for the night. With a Parisian mentality and a Russian thirst for liquor, this is a base for the confused protagonists of Sofia's subculture. more info »

| Comments: Great vibe at the hostel. The garden is perfect for communal dinners and the bar is a great place to meet other guests. The hostel is kind of dirty and the beds are below par. Make sure to bring your flip-flops for the shower....kind of nasty. For 1-3 nights, this place works though. |

| Comments: It truly has character. And the staff is nice and ready to help.
But it is cold now (like for most people in Sofia since they don't have insulation and the Government will not turn on the heat yet). |

| Comments: Very short stay, but really good time & funky hosts, an arts exhibition and a welcome drink, what more can you want. Around the corner, a great restaurant called divaka, cheap and very cheerful! |

| Comments: It is what it is: artsy place with interesting stuff to look at. The shower and bathroom were poor, but the ambiance made up for it. Not much of a social place for the lone traveller. You should go though! P.S: Taxi to hostel = scam |

| Comments: The bunk beds were extremely uncomfortable and unsteady. Place pretty untidy and not clean but staff seemed friendly. Easier to get a drink than it is to get clean sheets. |

| Comments: This is a great hostel, however although I had booked on trav when I arrived I was told that it was "overbooked" and then I got a matress on the floor... Otherwise though, its perfect. |

| Comments: A few problems...
1. Very dirty. A half drunk bottle of beer in our reserved room and the full bin was greeted with, 'Yes, that is a basket with something in it'.
2. Minimal privacy. People looking into our room at 5 in the morning.
3. Very expensive for what you get.
4. Breakfast continually low on supplies.
Might be good for single people - but for couples there are better options available. |

| Comments: Had lots of character. The idea behind the place was really good, but they need to do a bit of work on the bathrooms, n the place has a sort of musty feel to it. |

| Comments: I would never recommend going here in the winter months. The hostel isn\'t heated except for little crap heaters that barely work. It was SO COLD. On top of that there was barely a breakfast the first day and none at all the second day. I would never stay at this hostel again. In fact after staying here two nights we decided to spring for a hotel (which was only an extra 15 euro a night) because we were so tainted by this hostel. The staff are nice enough people but they are much more interested in drinking then they are in running a hostel. |

| Comments: Art Hostel staff were more than friendly and the guys are up for a laugh, esp the guy that speaks romanian, ask him out for a drink cos he gets bored a lot!!lol aside from there the rooms were bit cold so we nicked a heater from the basement, which was whack when u get drunk and the suspended table doesnt help!hehe!love it! |

| Comments: I actually was shifted to the Red House. While the directions left a bit to be desired, the lodgings were excellent! I had a big room, comfortable bed, a kitchen, and use of a living room. Breakfast was so-so, but the overall value was outstanding. |

| Comments: O.K, certainly nothing more. Watch out for the rusty screws sticking out of the woodwork, there's plenty of them. Dont expect a clean sheet for the night |

| Comments: If what you want is a decently clean hostel with good beds and a hot shower for the morning then do NOT stay here. I have been travelling for 5 months and my mom had just come out to visit me for a couple of weeks and I convinced her to stay in a hostel for a night instead of a hotel. I booked ahead and unfortunately for my mom this was definetly the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. The beds just had a blanket over a board instead of a mattress, everything was broken, none of the showers had working hot water, the floor in one place sank about 5 inches when you walked on it, there was not any toiltet paper the whole time we were there, everything was broken and dirty. The only good thing about the hostel was the fast internet, but frankly, good internet isnt enough. I have never in my life given a hostel a bad review before, but this place was an absolute dump and I am sure that I will never be able to talk my mom into staying in another hostel with me. |

| Comments: Seems like it would have been a nice place to stay, but as it was our beds were double booked and when we tried to sort it out the staff were drunk, rude, and reluctant to help. The laid back attitude that makes for a great hostel when things go right can make for a terrible one when they go wrong. However they did find us another hostel, after some negotiation at the same price. |
