Comments: Quite a few strange people hanging around outside and in the reception area. We had bed bugs in the first room so moved to another room at 1.00am. Staff were pretty good though, cleaned all of our clothes for free. If you are on a budget like us then the YMCA is ok for the money - just don't expect luxury !

Comments: I felt somewhat uneasy in this place for some reason. The man on reception was very helpful though. Its situated on what seems like a rough estate with a lot of building work. I couldnt stay for more than one night and the though of getting a dorm frightened the life out of me. The corridors reminded me of THE SHINING.

Comments: We cut our stay short. The place was institutional, didn´t feel safe, smelled BAD, and everyone was always fighting or drunk. The last straw was a girl asleep snoring loud enough to wake us in a pool of vomit ON the toilet in the bathroom.

Comments: Great Staff and help, although not much to do. No tv in rooms and need to travel floors to get to the bathroom is very annoying

Comments: We have booked for 4 nights but the 3rd day morning, the staff knocked our door and asked us to checked out. It has frighten my daughter who was sleeping at that moment. She is only 5 months old!!! When I proved to them with my booking document, my another stay was secured BUT I was asked to move to another room at another floor. Just imagine I got to pack my belonging & moved my baby just because the mistake made by the hostel.

Comments: I have to mention that the counter staff are excellent. Efficient and helpful. The condition of the building and facilities need an upgrade though. Good affordable budget accommodation.

| Comments: Hi there
At Jewell House, the male bathrooms and toilets were generally not in a hygienic condition and needed cleaning and sanitation in a big way. My other complaint is that for a non smoking establishment, there is plenty of smoking going on in the rooms plus all of the towels I was given absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke and were unusable.
Otherwise, a good stay.
Cheers |

Comments: I arrived at 2am to check in and there was someone there at the reception. And taking the advice from previous customer, I brought enough cash to pay at the counter and not usemy credit card. Jewell House is located just a few minute walk from city and also on the route of the city free bus service. I just didn't enjoy the fact that the share bathroom for guys and girls are located on different floors. I had to walk up a different floor everytime I need need to use the toilet and take a shower. Rooms are neat and clean.

Comments: Stayed at this Hostel for 11 days. All receptionists very helpful. Had room on the 8th floor, Room clean and tidy, found bed very comfy? Breakfast at hostel okay. Very close to city centre. (Free bus right out side (Red Cat)) Does get some unusual characters staying as right next to Hospital all friendly though.

Comments: Good for the money, but not really one for backpackers since most people staying there are there for the hospital next door. Hence; no crack.(fun)

Comments: There did seem to be a bit of Flavour at this Hostel. Never threatening but the load shouting and bumping behind closed doors and male guests on the female only floor were a bit worrying.

Comments: there appears to be a lot of deferred maintenance in the building, better cleaning required. Also, you need a policeman to make rounds, as the smell of smoke was apparent in halls and elevators.
