It was far away from down town, we were told by locals that the neighbourhood wasn't too safe, the staff (the guy that ran the place) was very inpolite and it wasn't possible to lock the door to our private room, which didn't look too welcoming.

It's about 10 minutes on the bus from downtown butr walking distance to Barnes and Noble, Walmart and supermarket. Kind of quiet and sombre, not much atmosphere or socialising but good for getting some privacy and decent sleep

The owner/manager even cooked brisket and salmon for the guests! The location is a little out of the way of anything interesting, so wake up early and hop on a bus (bus stop a few blocks aways) or rent a car. I would stay there again. Best part - no curfew or lockout.

Clean and quiet and the owner Joseph is very nice and helpful, and he is good at fishing so if you like to eat fish it would be a great place for you...I enjoyed my stay a lot and would stay there again if I go back to Anchorage.

While I was in Anchorage, I floated between this one, Jason's, and 26th street. This one definately had the best ammenities and the most affordable privacy. The owner, Joseph, is a really great guy who really cares about the quality of the hostel. This hostel is actually more like an affordable, safe, clean motel. When I was there, it didn't seem like it would be as good as 26th street for just meeting and hanging out with people... but that doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it... I definately would! It just depends on the kind of experience your looking for. Whatever you do, don't stay a Jason's. It was a TERRIBLE experience... Jason's was host to a disproportionately uncomfortable amount of local people (including registered sex offenders). Jason's also doesn't have any locks or lockers for your stuff like 26th street and it just smells funky. STAY AT 26th street for affordability and atmosphere. STAY AT Arctic Adventures for accomodations and privacy DON'T STAY AT Jason's Hostel for any reason at all. That's my three cents... enjoy your travels!

Its clean, has a big kitchen. Its located quite far from downtown (30 minutes walk), but is in a good neighbourhood w/ restaurants and food stores nearby. There is also a bus station close by that takes you downtown. It is cheap, and a good value hostel. We\'d definately stay there if we ever went back to Alaska and Anchorage.

I stayed four nights at the Arctic Adventure Hostel and I would recommend it to anyone. This was my first Hostel stay and it was perfect for me. I had a private room and enjoyed having a full kitchen and access to a computer. The staff was very helpful! I used public transportation most of the time and I walked quite a bit. I highly recommend the museum and Heritage Center, the Coastal Trial with a rented bike, and all of downtown! I happened to be in Anchorage the weekend of the "We're In" celebration which made for even more fun.

There is a large WalMart within 10 minutes walk from the hostel which was handy. There isn't much going on near the hostel so if you like a nice quiet and welcoming hostel, this is the place for you.
