It was quiet when I was there, the room was functional in every way. Overall good. A little bit overpriced maybe. The location is really good, next to a street with many pubs and restaurants, and also not far from downtown and the main train station.

Lovely complimentary bowl of fruit and gummi bears to greet you when you arrive. If you get a room with a kitchen, the supplies are adequate if you are preparing food simply. The only thing that wasn't perfect were the other loud guests. This is a very quiet, private, clean place good for people looking to see Cologne (it wouldn't be fun for partiers).

More like having your own apartment than a hostel, after we checked in we didn't see any staff for the next 2 days! It was really a unique experience and a nice break from the normal "hotel" setup.

It was probabaly the "nicest" hotel we stayed at on our budget tour of Europe as far as it was very clean and private. It's definitely not 5 minutes from train station/downtown, at least 20 minutes walking, but it was not a problem for us. Cologne was a pretty city to walk around; we spent our night in Altstadt and walked back from there. We thought we had been given a key to the main door but when we came back late we had to buzz to be let in...maybe it was just too much of that german beer. We forgot to ask how to check out so we just left the next day.

I was also unaware of the checkout time. Otherwise beautiful building, we loved the comfortable beds and pillows. The candy was a nice touch, and the silverware and plates were VERY useful/helpful. GREAT HOSTEL!! Better quality than a hotel!

But we were given a room that had clearly had smokers in it the morning we arrived. There was also a party held on the Saturday night (at about 1am?) where there were people hanging out on the stairwells smoking and drinking and making a hell of a noise for about an hour, even after I asked them to go away a couple of times. I am a bit annoyed that the owners didn't ask them to at least go into their own room and shut the doors. It was quite upsetting and I actually felt like asking for my money back!

The room is decorated in a very minimalistic way but there is a mini-kitchen and a tv. The bathroom is pretty small and it all feels like a student room. Not a bad choice at all.
