Reviews for Dublin H.I. (An Oige), Dublin, Ireland |
|
|
Address: 61 Mountjoy Street |
Dublin International Youth Hostel's building, has in its time been a convent and a school and still bears the marks of these times. Perhaps the most obvious example is the old nun's chapel more info »

| Comments: Apart from the weird, filthy long-term resident in our dorm this place was fine. The rooms were big but the bathrooms were old and the showers had nowhere for you to get changed. The breakfast was great and the do-it-yourself walking tour that the staff had written was really useful. The staff were helpful but seemed transient and didn\'t ask the grub in our dorm to clean her stuff up. It\'s a decent base for exploring Dublin. |

| Comments: near the center, about 7min by feet, perfect to sleep well without being far away. Showers were hot enough and breakfast was exellent. Staff of different nationalities we're understood well) |

| Comments: Too far to walk with heavy bags but otherwise it was average. The female shower set up was terrible- no locked doors so anyone could just come in and take you stuff or pull curtain back- nowhere to put clothes or valuables while shower??? |

| Comments: pretty far from the main part of the city, but if you don't mind this, it's very good. fairly easy to find too, you pretty much just go straight up from O'Connell bridge. |

| Comments: Its a good walking distance from most things but it is good that you are away from it all too. Kitchen facilities help whilst on the travelling budget and the rooms are good size and have a heap of security.
Worst thing was the disrespect of other travellers. If you are going to leave early, pack your bag the night before, don't let your alarm ring out forever and if your REALLY have to turn the light ona nd wake everyone else turn it off when you leave! |

| Comments: The heater in the room was broke, I lost sleep, then told them, they fixed it right away. They refunded me HALF my money; quite generious. I did get some hours of sleep regardless. Basically, they went the extra mile, and that makes me wanna stay there again and again, even though it is a little walk from city center... Which can be a good thing because there are less drunk crazy people by the hostel... depends on how you look at it I suppose. |

| Comments: Really nice hostel! it was so cozy that we actually stayed there more than we would have imagined...cooking our dinners in the kitchen, playing risk for hours... the best place to counterarrest dublin's rain! |

| Comments: An Oige was a wonderful place to stay, though it was a bit further from Temple Bar and other nightlife for the taste of students. The staff was always helpful and easygoing, and we met people from all over. If you are in town to really see the sights, not as much to party, this is a wonderful place to stay. But no worries, you will still be able to get to the nightlife if that\'s what you\'re looking for. |

| Comments: my room was way to cold and the heating didn't work. also the showers were not what I would call cosy. you have to press the tap every 10 seconds to get a proper flow of water. furthermore the water was a bit to cold. but in general I enjoyed my stay . |

| Comments: Great hostel - one of the best in Dublin. Fab breakfast, ideal location and warm in winter. It's a bit strange making a phone call from an old confessional booth. th hostel is an old convent which adds to its charm. Will be staying here again. |

| Comments: They have a very nice restaurant where you can meet up people from several countries during the breakfast. By the way the breakfast was nice, you have the choices of milk, tea, coffee, fruit juice, bread, butter, jam, cereals, and for that price is quite good. The rooms are quite new and the complex is nice throughout. Great value |

| Comments: - If you visit this hostel, double-check that your locker locks properly. It was easy to open mine even when the padlock was locked on it! The receptionist could not repair it so I was moved to an other room. OK so far, but be cautious!
- There was no working power socket in our room, I was unable to recharge my mobile phone. I think that a room for 8 people should have at least 8 sockets! |

| Comments: In a very sketchy and out-of-the-way location. The money you save on the hostel will be spent of cabs. Also, if you want a padlock or towel, you must pay for them, but you get to keep the padlock. You could bring your own of either of these, of course. The breakfast was alright with a hot option that could be bought. One advantage was a sink in the room. I didn't use the game or TV rooms, but they were there. It is also a relatively large hostel with lots of people. |

| Comments: This hostel is large, monks or nuns used to live here. You have breakfast in a temple.
Everything is simple and clean, maybe too simple, without much style, and without aiming to be a friendly environment. This hostel gives little fun compared to the others in Dublin. Wifi is available, but so much overloaded that you can hardly access your emails, and you have to wait until late at night to have enough bandwidth for Skype.
I had no major problems here. |

| Comments: The onsuite was a bit filthy; all kinds of muck on the sink and in the shower that didn't really look that old. It could've been much nicer with a bit more effort on the cleaning. Friendly staff and good location. |

| Comments: I was in a room for 8 girls, and there was only one electrical outlet. There wasn't even one in the toilets or in the shower room. Luckily, there was one in the hallway. Also, the showers are impractical. Where can I put all of my stuff when I\'m showering so it doesn\'t get wet?
Other than that, my stay was great. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, the information you had on the city of Dublin was great, and breakfast was good too (although some fruit would be nice). |

| Comments: A bit far out of the way, and Mountjoy Street isn't clearly marked, so we got lost. We basically just used it as a place to sleep, though, so we can't comment on much else. |
