Comments: The Cecil is a charming hotel in a very convenient location. The room was excellent, and the staff were professional and helpful. We felt we got great value for money here - breakfast was included, and the location was so good, we didn't need to pay for any public transport.

Comments: Good view of the Acropolis from the roof. The staff were very helpful arranging early breakfasts for people going on trips & the rooms were very clean. The only thing we didn't like is that there was no fridge in the room.

Comments: Pretty nice place for a couple of days in Athens. Good location, pretty close to stuff, but easy for public transport. Had real problems with Mosquitoes in the building and from what we hear in each room. You couldn't keep them out no matter what you do so some interesting nights of rest. Really helpful guy on the front desk most of the time and not too close to Omonia where the dodgy people reside. If not for the mosquitoes we would stay there any time.

Comments: The location was very close to all the major sites in Athens. No complaints about the hotel. It looked like it had been renovated in recent months so we didn't encounter the problems that other people had written about.

Comments: This hotel was overall good - excellent location. The only bad point is that it is quite noisy - street noise and other guests. Although location and all else was good, I would only reluctantly book to go back due to the noise (was not good for us).

Comments: This is more a hotel than hostel. I stayed there to get a fews nights sleep and a clean shower. Go here for sleep and to get yourself sorted, not to party. Hotel staff was extremely accommidating and friendly.

Comments: We stayed there for a week and the airconditioning didn't work most of the time (it worked only on 2-3 evenings), so it was very-very cold in our room. The room itself and the bathroom were very small, but clean. The bathroom floor got very wet after every time we used the shower. Excellent location though.

Comments: The hotel is well located for tourists wanting to visit Athens. The downside is that the entire area between Omonia Square and Monastiriki is frequented by a large number of prostitutes. The hotel is on a main street where there are no prostitutes, but one cannot avoid passing them as soon as one turns into a side-street. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed there in two occasions. The first time the room was nice, a good 2 stars room. The second time though it was extremely small, especially the bathroom and this spoiled a bit the good impressions we had. The breakfast is okay if you don't expect anything special. For a 2 stars hotel I found the price we payed (60 to 70 euro per night for a double room)a bit expensive, but I suppose that it is normal for Athens even we were off-season.

Comments: Room was adequate for our purposes as we did not spend much time in thier. Breakfast was a little bit cold and bland. WOuld have been nice to have some hot food. Staff were sweet but got confused about our different bookings. Hotel was of a very good standard of cleanliness.

Comments: The location is very good for a budget hotel, less than 5 minutes from Monastiriki station and 10 minutes maximum to all the restaurants and shops of Plaka. We were two girls on our own, and felt safe walking to and from the hotel at night. The breakfast was good, bread, eggs, cheese, coffee and delicious Greek yoghurt with honey. The maids were excellent and tidied our room each day without fail. The only negative things to comment on are first, the bathroom had no window or extractor fan, so nothing ever really got dry in there, and it began to feel quite damp in general towards the end of the week. Second, the air conditioner/heater in our room was broken. But aside from that, this was very good value for money and I would recommend it.

Comments: I was a bit skeptical based on some other reviews, but I rate this hotel among the best I experienced during my two-week jaunt through Italy and Greece. The price seems high, but after a lot of comparison, I found that Cecil is actually a pretty good deal for a private room in Athens with such a great location. This hotel is about 2-minutes walk from the Monasteraki metro stop and it is 15-minutes walk from both the Acropolis and Syntagma. The Monateraki-Acropolis-Sytagma triangle encompasses most of the highlights in Athens. We used the metro only to get to and from the airport. Cecil has no roof-top bar of cafe, but the roof is accessible and offers a fantastic, unobstructed view of the Acropolis. That's good, because our room had basically no view at all. Bathroom was one of the nicest I experienced. Room was clean. Staff was very helpful. The included breakfast was great. About the only downside is that, on first arrival, our room was very smokey, but that pretty much cleared out after leaving the window open for a few hours. Bottom line: If you want a private room that is conveniently located and offers a great view of the Acropolis, Cecil is hard to beat.
