Comments: I liked this hostal and I recommended it to everyone who wants to stay near Madrid, because this hostal it's near Gran Via. In Spain breakfasts are poor. Here it is poor but you have cereals, cakes, coffee, milk, tea and juice. Ýou have internet but it is not free!!! I paid 2 euros for just one hour!!

Comments: La Fontana was great. The place had a lot of character and was in a perfect location right in the middle of the city near the metro. Only one staff member spoke a little English. The room was big, the bathroom was small - but were clean but smelled of smoke. We rarely ever saw any other guests, but would stay there again.

Comments: The location of this place was really good. Right in the centre, but the "included breakfast" consisted of cake and biscuits with cereal. The staff were lovely.

Comments: For a budget-traveller an excellent place to stay; safe, clean, peacefull and a great location to see the city. Nevermind that the area was a bit "interesting" or that the spanish breakfast is/was something else than what I eat at home.. and the spanish way of speaking english means not to know how to speak.. that all was alright because I came to experience Spain and that I did also in Hostel Fontana! Thank you!

Comments: I recommend the staff to answer e-mails. I asked them twice to confirm my email from Peru in which I asked them to change my reservation. Staff changed the reservation, but never confirmed

Comments: The hostel room is a little bit small, and the staffs don't talk much, but I like it this way because I think they may respect my privacy. The location is perfect, in the center of Madrid.

Comments: The hostel is ok but the staff is not very helpfull at all. They are not spanish so they dont guide you at all about what to do and how to do it in the city. The check in and check out are both at 12, so we had to wait until they cleaned the room (which they did very poorly). Breakfast is very bad.. We wouldnt go back.

Comments: Must say I was VERY dissapointed with this hotel. Communication with the non-English speaking male on arrival was impossible, checking in must have taken 20 frustrating minutes (and I still don't have a reciept for my payment!). Great location. The `breakfast` is VERY poor, I think a good breakie can set you up for a busy day, best eat elsewhere. The pc monitor can be overlooked by anyone at the reception desk so is not private enough to use properly. They also need to discover fabric freshener.

Comments: Very Cheerfully decorated. Had a single with shared bath that was very small but adequate. Changed to double with bath when friend arrived-more than twice the size but both sink and shower were water conserving "push the knob for 30 seconds of water"-have to keep pushing the knob for continuous showering. Weird.

Comments: Visited Hostel La Fontana in July 2007. My age is 50+.It is a small, quiet hostel which suited me very much. Very central position, just around the corner from the Gran Via Metro Station. The Hostel is very clean and the staff are really helpful. It is on the 1st floor but has a lift so did not have to drag the suitcase up the stairs. Thank you to the Staff who were always most helpful. I loved Madrid and would come back to this Hostel if I am ever in Madrid again.

Comments: The shared washroom is in dire need of a good dusty. It smelly due the dust and mold that you can barely breathe. My main reason for using this hostel was because it was 24 hours and so I could receive a wake up call because I had an early morning flight. I confirmed 3 times with the lady at reception who was neither helpful or friendly....NO WAKE UP CALL! She apparently didn't inform the night person who was very apolegetic but fortunately my internal alarm went off.

Laura Pascual-Cronin

Comments: Location was good in terms of it was central and close to the metro station - but it's in the middle of the red light district which isn't ideal - it still felt safe but I'm not sure female guests would agree. Apart from the noisiness of the guy in the room next to me it was a good stay!

Comments: Very nice staff, but not very good at english. Very helpful though. The security is outstanting, 2 levels. The rooms are very cosy and romantic, and they offer a nice breakfast too. Hope to go again.
