The room was nicely decorated, and was cosy. Everything was spot-on for the price. We recommend the big breakfast at the Southern Cross Cafe next door.

The duvet covers were tartan patterns which were so nice to sleep, but the heaters in our room and bathroom were not on all day and night. It was so cold in the bathroom and our room. Also, crowded and noisy common room. Yet, it was over my expectation with such a cheap price. If you want to stay in Edinburgh for a few days and don't want to spend too much, this hostel fits you!

Good atmosphere anyway (pub crawl on Thursdays :) Don't forget to check how much they charge you when you check in, since they might charge you more than said on the Internet (especially if you asked the price in euros). Very loud common room, and not a lot of privacy in the bathroom.

There was never tissue in the bathroom and the floor was always dirty and sticky. A renovation of the bathrooms would make this hostel perfect! Well worth it for the price and the location!!!!

The showers and toilets were dirty and need a referb. The atmosphare in the hostel was uninviting. There were 4 fridges so full there was hardly any room for our food. Awesome location, but over rated. Get what you pay for.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating - 7th October 2008 Female 25-30 3/5 Comments: We had a good stay here in October '08 - I was really worried by some of the reviews I read (bedbugs, no security, no hot water, etc.), but everything went smoothly. We had a private twin room with an ensuite, and while it was small, the beds were very, very comfortable. I thought it was neat that we had to go down one of the closes - it felt like we were in our own little flat. The area might seem a little sketchy at first, but we had absolutely no issues. If you don't mind a tiny room, this hostel is in a fantastic location.

It was pretty quiet over there. I wasn't really happy with the state of the room, wasn't clean, especially bathroom, but there were linen and towels in the room:) Could recommend it no problem!

We thought we were going to get a double room with small bathroom but ended up with our own kitchen thrown into the deal - brilliant! Great for long stays but we only stayed for 2 nights. Comfy bed and sofa with a TV too! Better price than any cheap hotel as well, with far more character. Only issue was all the stairs!!

However I was in a private room and question the last time it had been vaccuumed and whether the sheets had even been changed. The pillows and mattress were old and had a stale smokey smell to them. However the staff and location was brilliant!
