The hotel is above a falafel place which is open 24/7 and we had to check in in the falafel joint. The owners were real chill though and let us use the computer whenever we wanted. Great location but definitely kind've sparse room.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating USA 17th March 2008 Male 18-24 4/5 Comments: place is in a great location. lots of good stores to shop and tourist restaurants to eat. plenty of coffee shops around, barneys is around the corner and by far has the best menu besides the Grey Area. awesome music store across the street. the hotel is located well, there are stairs that are very steep to the room and initially it smelled. 420 friendly - in the end, you get what you pay for, a little pricey but ssafe, food downstairs was half decent in the hotel restaraunt, i had a falafel pita with fries and a coke for 8.50 eu. the shower was very small and sort of felt as if i was showering in the sink, but this place is great to drop ur luggage off and go out for the entire day and come back and put yourself to sleep.

We enjoyed our stay so much first time around we wanted to spend the last few days of our trip their again. There were no double rooms but they worked things out for us and our stay once again is great! p.s. the guy even stood out the front when we left in the taxi and waved us off!

I would definitely stay here again. There is also a delicious little tapas bar called Fuegos just next door.

Some noise at night but to be expected if you want a good location. Typical Dutch building, steep stairs & high ceilings gave character (& good exercise!). Staff really nice, very clean rooms & bathroom - only concern was front door being open all night but as we had no problems and heard of none so this wasn\'t really an issue. Highly recommended and excellent value for money :-)

Look around... they are all like that! And plus, its a hostel not a four st&r hotel. We loved it.... it was very central and clean but the shower/bathroom mqde us laugh! The man who owns the place is the sweetest guy ever. They have a restaurant downstairs that sells cheap fries!! I would reccommend it for sure!

Great location, staff and overall cleanliness. Had a great time and would definitely recommend this hostel.

All the tourist attractions we wanted to see were within walking distance, but trams to many of these attractions were also close by. The staff was really helpful and friendly. We had to walk up a lot of stairs to get to our room, but the room was clean, and the two double beds (four person room) were better than ones I've slept on at other budget hostels. Considering this hotel was one of the cheapest options we had in Amsterdam, I would stay there again.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating England 27th April 2007 Female 25-30 4/5 Comments: My boyfriend and i stayed for four nights at Hotel de Stern and when we arrived we were very lucky to get a free 'up garde' to a bigger room which was also ensuite. The room was very clean and spaceous and the staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. The location of the hotel is excellent just off of one of the main squares with lots of bars and resturants near by but at the same time the hotel was in a quiet street. We would recommend this hotel as it is very good value for money.
