We slept in a double in the floor and next to our rooms are the chairs and tables, which are needed for the bar outside. It makes lots of noise in the middle of the night, when they are put back. We could only sleep with earplugs and didn't have very good and relaxing nights... In my opionion the two double in the floor shouldn't be offered for guests or at least not for 20 Euro p.P. And also the mattresses made of leather are not for everyones taste... But the location is really good, quite near to the city center and the markets and the atmosphere is quite nice.

The staff were friendly and always willing to help. At first apperence, it looks kind of sketchy place but I did not have any troubles at all.

Shaving with cold water over a pig trough with someone taking a dump right next to me in a bathroom with no external door was uncomfortable. I asked a staff member for a network cable - other staff members had searched earlier - he didn't respond verbally. He stared at me with a mean glare and shook his head side to side. Very strange. I went to bed fully clothed, including a hoodie and gloves, but was eaten alive by the mosquito infestation. NIGHTMARE

The market around the corner creates quite a stench from the rows and rows of hanging meat and the fact that they throw all the refuse from the market right on the street next to the hostel. Other than that, it was ok.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating New Zealand 2nd November 2008 Female 25-30 3/5 Comments: Bathrooms were filthy, beds were so squeaky I was woken up whenever anyone moved & they're up in bed, lockers didn't shut properly, swing doors to the bathroom constantly banged & I was bitten every night. Staff made no effort to keep noise down at night (at least after 2am) - was kept awake despite earplugs. Laundry wasn't working, breakfast worst in 6 months. Dinner and cheap drinks are good, they organised my trip to Etna which was brilliant. Guess you get what you pay for.

Although, the beds are EXTREMELY noisy which is very unsettling with 10 people in the room. Need to invest in either airconditioning or more fans...(one small fan for 10 people is certainly not enough!)...was the most uncomfortable night sleep of my entire backpacking trip (5 months).

Beyond the noise, this hostel is one par with most. I would recommend ear plugs and/or an I-pod to get to sleep.

I never smelled the fish market. The was only one big party night outside of my room in the square during my three nights. There were some good early-bird dining discounts for guests of the hostel.
