LOCAL ATTRACTIONS BOLOGNA (NOT TO BE MISSED)
The Two Towers : The Asinelli Tower (97 metres) and the Garisenda Tower (48 metres), were built in the same period between 1109-1199.
The Palazzo D'Accursio : has been the seat of the City Council since 1200 and above the main portal you can see the bronze statue of the Pope Gregory XIII, who reformed the calendar. The Coucil Collection of ancient art and the Morandi Museum can be entered through the Courtyard. The Palazzo Re Enzo : Built in 1244, it was, for 23 years, the prison of King Enzo, the son of Federick II, captured during the battle of Fossalta. The Basilica of San Petronio : is one of the largest churches in Christendom in the world and was built by Antonio di Vincenzo between the XIV-XVII centuries. A bas-relief by Jacopo della Quercia is placed above the main portal. The interior contains paintings by Giovanni da Modena, Jacopo di Paolo, Lorenzo Costa, Amico Aspertini, and others.
The Church of S. Francesco : built during the XIII century is a splendid example of French Gothic architecture.
The Church of S. Stefano : a group of religious buildings constructed in different periods (between XI-XIII centuries) is a magnificent piece of Romanesque architecture. The Portico of S. Luca, the Meloncello and the Sanctuary of the B.V. of San Luca : the portico starts out from the Gate of Saragozza and leads up to the Sanctuary of B.V. of S. Luca , on the hill of the Guardia. It was built with 666 arches in 1674 (the arch over the road at Meloncello is by C.F. Dotti). The Santuary of S.Luca was built in XI century and was enlarged on a design by Dotti in 1723. The interior contains works by Viani, Creti, Reni, Bigari and Piò.
The Church of Santa Maria Dei Servi : the elegant square portico and the area around the apse are extremely beautiful. The interior contains paintings by Albani, Cimabue and Innocenzo da Imola
The Ducati Museum : hosts 26 perfectly conserved Ducati Motor Bike models, which are exposed within an illuminated track and makes you relive over 50 years of the Ducati history. Two of the most representing models to nominee are “Il Cucciolo” (the first ever built Ducati of 1946) and the “Marianna” (Motor bike that dominated all the Italian races in the 1950's). |
