Comments: i booked for 2 nights (31st dec 2007 and 1st jan 2008).i got there new years eve and was told that they had cancelled my booking and had sent me an email regarding this. i have since returned and checked my emails- there is no email regarding cancelling my booking from them. they arranged a room for me for 1st jan (they charged me for this and did not apologise for cancelling the booking) but i had nowhere to stay on 31st dec.

Comments: The hotel was noisy when the walls seem to be like paper. When one speaks in other room it's the same as it would come from your room. Ear-plugs are great to have if you want to sleep. Basically it was okay...

Comments: Good hostel overall if you just need the basics. Some of the staff were not helpful at all, but there was another fellow with glasses that helped me out a great deal near the end of the trip. The others didn't seem to speak english well enough to help me much...either that or they didn't care. Credit card machine was not working when I tried to check in...had to use all the euro's in my pocket to pay the balance. Not much in terms of character.....basic rooms....no common area really other than a breakfast room. Very small rooms, but that is to be expected from a hostel. About a 15 minute walk to most major attractions. Best bet is to rent a bike. Overall I had a decent stay, but would only rank this hostel as average.

Comments: Seems to be a lack of communication between reception and cleaning staff, e.g. 1) an extra bed cover was delivered on request but was repeteadly removed by cleaning personnel. 2) Divergent information from reception staff about cleaning routines. However, the breakfast arrangement was very well organised - rather impressing.

Comments: I was really impressed by this charming hotel and how cheap it was. Everytime my friend and I walked into the room we sighed at how cute it was. Very clean and newly decorated with ikea furniture. The only problem I had was a little dark brown stain on my bed sheet. In our small, small room (which I think is a new addition to the hotel or newly renovated--third floor) there were large windows, tall ceilings, small flatscreen tv (fuzzy reception), and adjustable showerhead. It was like having a little apartment of your own in a very quaint and quiet neighborhood. A couple of blocks away are really cute/trendy neighborhood restaurants. Much preferred over areas such as Rembrantplein and Ledsplein squares which is only a 20 minute walk away in opposite directions.

Comments: Our room was in the basement beside the kitchen. The fixtures were new, however the room was VERY damp. Our clothes, bed, pillows, EVERYTHING was wet the whole time. Also, the shower wasn't graded properly so the entire washroom floor was flooded whenever you had a shower.

Comments: Great place to save some money and enjoy Amsterdam from. Impeccably clean rooms, decent location (Stadhouderskade near the Amstel canal), and safe residential neighborhood. 20 minute walk to city center, 10 to Rembrandtplein and Museumplein. Save cash on an expesive central location and stay at the Max.

| Comments: Never I have been in an hotel which had an price/quality average like this hotel. The service is good, staff is helpfull, Internet for free if you have an laptop. Not far from the city and clean fresh sheets. The rooms are not big but has everything in there you need such as tv toilet shower and central heating and more. MY ADVICE GO TO HOTEL MAX to make your stay in Amsterdam. It is near all mayor sites.
In august I go to Amsterdam again and I will for sure stay in this hotel again.

Comments: Nice place to stay, the room was very cosy however a little bit small especially when you are trying to pack your bag (not much floor room). Would stay there again, excellent readiator after a cold day in town.

Comments: The staff at Hotel Max were incredibly friendly, and gave us lots of helpful advice. There is a nice local coffee shop, a supermarket opposite and a lovely local market nearby. It is also right next to a tram stop, and within walking distance to lots of nice bars and restaurants. A little bit pricey for what it is (essentially a budget hotel), but worth it for friendly staff.

Comments: We got a great room out in the garden where we could be as loud as we wanted. It was cheap and very close to the center of town without having that creepy feeling many of the places near the Red Light District have. There were fresh towls everyday, we had our own shower and toilet and it was just all over a great experience.

Comments: The Max in Mokum is an AWESOME location in Amsterdam! It is far from Centraal Station but that's good because it is quiet, right by the open market in the Albert Cuyp Str., and by some great coffeeshops (try Katsu's NL SS+...holy schniekees) Quiet hotel, toilet is in the shower...pee and wash.

Comments: The staff here are super friendly and helpful. Its a new budget hotel and so everything was very clean and new. A plus, the matresses are also quite new and still very comfortable. I thought the hotel was in a good location since you aren't in the middle of the red light district and you are close to the museums and vondelpark, so you don't spend your entire weekend walking circles around the red light area. It is about a 15 minute walk to central station, or just jump on the 4 or 25 tram. Also good, there is a Lidl grocery store directly across the street for those on a tight budget. Overall, I thought this hotel was a great deal, the cleanest and friendliest budget hotel I've ever stayed in in Amsterdam.
