When we booked in we were told room was given to someone else (even though we were given the room number earlier that morning when we dropped our bags off), we were placed in an inferior room at the same cost, with no apology. The cleanliness of room was poor, we shared the bathroom with a wide array of insects and a gecko!

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating Scotland 18th April 2008 Female 31-40 4/5 Comments: this is a great place to stay with very friendly and helpful staff. i stayed with my ma who is getting on a bit and when she found the location of our room a bit noisy at night (right above a bar) they moved us straight away to a similar room and basically did all they could to meet our needs. excellent location, great value, for budget stay it could not have been better, it honestly couldnt.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating - 31st March 2008 Female 31-40 4/5 Comments: The building is old world glorious, the location is just a few blocks from the beach and Espanola way is beautiful, even more on the weekends when it closes down for all the street vendors and is lit up and teeming with people. Slept better there than I did at a hotel. To top it all off, there's a resident cat...like having a little bit of home on vacation with me. I will definately be staying there again.

Nationality Stayed Gender Age Group Overall Rating USA 26th March 2008 Female 18-24 2/5 Comments: THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! only good thing about this is location. the staff is absolutely sly and conniving. one staff didn't give my friend her $10 deposit back and lied that it was for maintenance fee when there was no such thing. a german girl who stayed here also stated that she accidentally left her wallet at front desk and a moment later it was gone; when she tried to call a germany number for some aid, the staff, immediately afraid that she was going to call the embassy or some officials, simply blurted that international calls do not work. tsk tsk tsk SHADY!!! stay away from this place. i'm absolutely serious

Did I mention how LOUD the music played...ALL NIGHT til 5.a.m. Our room was directly above the NOISIEST bar on the planet!! Otherwise our room was clean, quaint. Great restaurants and beach near by. But the NOISE!! DEAFENING!! No sleep for us!!!

I'm sure it was really spectacular when it was first built...lots of history, nice street, great restaurants all around, short walk to a beautiful beach. We were there on February 29th..a Friday night. Not sure what was being celebrated but the street was closed off to traffic, and Latin music was playing as the people dined and partied. This would have been fine BUT our room was DIRECTLY above one of the bars, and the music was played EXTREMELY loud..ALL NIGHT until 5 a.m.!! The bed, lamps, pictures on the wall (Along with our heads!) were vibrating with every drum and bass guitar beat! ALL NIGHT LONG!!! No sleep to be had. We had read the reviews about the hotel being in a quiet location....NOT so on Feb. 29/08 !!The hostel could have warned us about the noise potential. Also, parking is only available 2 blocks away at a shopping centre...cost is $10.00 Also not mentioned in the reviews.

We stayed in a private room and i would have considered it more of a hotel room...it was great. Very clean and you walk outside the front door to heaps of great restaurants. Kitchen is absolutely horrible, the worst kitchen I have ever seen in a hostel, and I have been to many hostels all over the world. It is very dirty and there is no stove, just few microwaves that barely work.

Biggest problem as seen in other reviews is that there is no security at all. I had my wallet stolen when I left the room for 30 minutes and returned to see that it had been cleaned. Of course I should have secured it but the response I received from management was condescending. Worth staying in if you extremely careful with anything of value and want total autonomy from management.

And the location, close to the beach and along Espanola Way was great. There was an awful smell in the second gateway entrance and near the kitchen where the restaurant backs up to it. I found myself dreading having to go back to my room because of this.

Located centraly to Miami hot spots and a few blocks away from the beach. The rooms are big and are cleaned and beds made daily. All round pleasant experience.
